Helping create a leading airport on an international scale

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is currently implementing a demanding and comprehensive program of redevelopment within the Brisbane Airport precinct. The redevelopment includes a wide range of aspects including storm and sewer upgrade, HV electrical infrastructure expansion, runway-related infrastructure upgrade and the upgrade and refurbishment of airport buildings.

New buildings are also being constructed within the airport precinct and the existing infrastructure requires close integration with the new buildings to ensure adequate capacity is provided for both current and future needs. The development is proceeding in accordance with strict time requirements and in compliance with the airport’s regulatory approval authority.

Turner & Townsend Thinc’s role is to provide project and program management services for and on behalf of BAC. Turner & Townsend Thinc is managing the overall utilities infrastructure upgrade program as well as key building redevelopment and runway infrastructure upgrades.

The role requires the team to manage the various projects from concept, through design and construction phases to successful handover. A critical element of the role is to consult with a wide range of airport stakeholders, coordinate the programming of the works within a busy operational environment and coordinate with other projects to ensure all the works are successfully integrated into the Airport precinct. All projects have regular reporting to BAC regarding the status of the works against time, cost and quality parameters.

This major program of works – guided by BAC’s Property Development Master Plan – is helping Brisbane Airport to achieve its corporate vision and place consistently well in national and international rankings.

It was the highest ranking monitored airport in The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) Airport Monitoring Report for 2011-12 and was also the highest placed Australian airport in the Skytrax Top 100 Airports Awards 2013, at number 21.

Turner & Townsend Thinc is proud to be helping Brisbane Airport become a self-sustaining commercial centre for business and leisure that complements the CBD and supports the economic and cultural growth of Brisbane and Queensland.
