The best possible clinical care for future generations

Located on the Queen Elizabeth II campus, the hospital is drawing on best practice healthcare provision and technological advances from leading hospitals all over the world. The highly complex programme also involves the services of multiple highly specialised contractors. The government has therefore required ongoing support assessing the design approach and coordinating wide-ranging contractor inputs to provide assurance around quality, schedule and budget.

ADVICE + ACTION

Turner & Townsend Thinc competitively tendered and was successful initially to provide a design management role which involved overseeing the functional design of the 298-bed hospital, incorporating the full spectrum of inpatient services – quaternary, tertiary, secondary – as well as ambulatory care clinics and the State’s premier paediatric research institute.

As the programme moved forward, we were successful in competitively tendering a comprehensive range of services including, architectural, engineering, design and specialist consultancy services. We have also used our global expertise in building information modelling (BIM) to help our client review the contractor’s LOD500 model. This will help inform future operational and asset management requirements and decision making.

OUTCOMES

The new Perth Children’s Hospital is a high profile State Government-funded project. We have ensured we provided the right data, options, analysis and advice at the right time to make sure public officials were comprehensively supported to make evidence-based decisions.

We used our experience of hospital builds in other parts of Australia, together with our international healthcare experience, to drive progressive solutions to healthcare service challenges, and supported our client with training and development programmes to achieve operational readiness.

Our BIM service included a strategic review and report on the contractor’s performance with regard to their developed LOD 500 standard. This model is one of the largest delivered to date in the Western World.
